How to Source a Portable Power Station for the US & Europe
A practical procurement checklist for distributors, private-label brands, and project buyers evaluating portable power stations from China.

In this guide
A strong sourcing decision starts with the end-use scenario, not a catalogue page. A product that works for weekend camping may not meet the output, charging, serviceability, or documentation requirements of an RV dealer, backup-power retailer, or rental fleet.
1. Start with the end-use application
Before requesting a quotation, write down the devices the station must support, the expected running time, the sales channel, and the destination market. This gives your supplier a useful technical brief and avoids comparing units that only appear similar on paper.
Outdoor & RV
Portability, solar input, quiet operation, standard socket configuration.
Home backup
Continuous output, expansion capacity, UPS behavior, and warranty expectations.
Trade & rental
Rugged enclosure, surge capacity, repairability, and repeat-order continuity.
2. Compare the specifications that affect customer value
The highest wattage headline is rarely the only buying criterion. Ask for a clear product specification sheet, then compare the essentials below across the shortlist.
LiFePO4 is commonly selected for its cycle life, thermal stability, and suitability for residential or mobile energy storage.
Check continuous AC output, surge capability, and whether the inverter can support the intended loads.
Confirm the stated Wh capacity, recommended depth of discharge, and available expansion-battery options.
Review AC charging time, solar input range, MPPT limits, and compatibility with your target-market grid.
Specify 120V/60Hz or 230V/50Hz output, socket types, plug standards, and local labeling requirements.
Buyer tip
Request the same measurement basis from every supplier. For example, ask whether capacity is stated at nominal cell voltage, what load condition is used for runtime claims, and whether AC conversion losses are included.
3. Verify compliance documents before placing a sample order
Product compliance is market-specific and model-specific. Treat documents as a technical due-diligence item: confirm the issuing laboratory, the model number on the document, revision date, and the exact configuration it covers.
A practical document request list
- UN38.3 transport test summary and current MSDS/SDS for lithium-battery shipments.
- Applicable CE, EMC, LVD, RoHS, FCC, or UL-related reports for the destination market and product model.
- Product labels, packaging marks, user manual draft, and declaration documents needed by your channel.
- A traceable serial-number, warranty, and quality-inspection plan for large purchase orders.
4. Confirm commercial terms beyond unit price
A useful quotation makes the total landed-cost picture clearer. Ask for the product configuration, MOQ, samples, lead time, packaging, Incoterms, and dangerous-goods logistics documentation in writing.
Samples & production
Clarify sample configuration, sample-to-production consistency, batch lead time, and how engineering changes are documented.
Shipping & delivery
Confirm carton dimensions, lithium-battery packing requirements, shipping method, named port, and the scope of FOB or DDP terms.
5. Qualify the manufacturer, not only the product
A reliable long-term partner should be able to explain its engineering process, quality-control gates, supply continuity, and communication process. Ask for a live factory walkthrough or third-party audit when the program is strategic.
